Mix of the Year 2007

Mixes? Plural? No. Why bother? I'm not saying I didn't experience others that I enjoyed, Crookers, Simian Mobile Disco, Broken Hooker DJ's, etc, etc, etc. But in reality it would just not really do justice to the one that stood out above the rest for me.

La Grève Générale - Cheese on Toast and Sambuca mixtape [via YouSendIt for 7 days]

Exciting. Compelling. Diverse in the hippest way.

La Grève Générale's Cheese on Toast and Sambuca mixtape had me literally squealing with delight.

Hell hath no fury like Steph Mulrine scorned. Well this proves that eclecticism hath no freedom like La Grève Générale.

These boys should definitely be something to shout about for a long time to come. And somewhere up North should book them. Poverty restricts me geographically.

Add these guys on MySpace. Then bombard them with general exclamations of adoration. I do.

M.I.A.

It's probably well late to be commenting. You know months down the line. But I absolutely bloody adore the most recent M.I.A. album. Indulging in this has been something quite brilliant to be honest. Many tracks I had stumbled across before hearing the album. And due to those La Grève Générale boys that I am so affectionate of I was already singing Bird Flu rather frequently.

But turning my ears to Kala, M.I.A.'s 2007 musical gem, has been horizon expanding even for myself. Always partial to, well, a bit of everything, this album certainly satisfies a part of me that had been feeling decidedly underwhelmed of late. Pushing the boundries of everything that sits nicely within a genre, M.I.A. might as well be spitting in the face of musicians all over the world. Giving face and much deserved respect to the so many types of music that she journey's through it truly is something that needs to be.. experienced. Even the shy-retiring-folk-lovers need to sit and be open-minded and think about the comfort zones that M.I.A. is getting rid of from the mainstream with this.

She is to be respected.

Here is a little treat.

Things wrong with the world - Part 675828

1. No longer has I posted my last post about Junior Boys but bloody Pitchfork go and inform me that Junior Boys are to release a deluxe two-disc special edition type malark of So, This Is Goodbye. Not really was I was hoping for.

2. The other day in conversation I said "Noanna Jewsom".

3. I am going to miss The Whip, Metronomy and The Sunshine Underground on Saturday at Empire in Middlesbrough because I am working from 10am-10pm. Yes, a twelve hour shift. Going to fill my MP3 player with lots of mixes to get me through it. Probably by La Grève Générale. I love them boys.

4. I met, shook hands with and had my photo taken with Lord Anthony Giddens yesterday and I'm sure my hand was unexplainably sweaty.

5. Max Weber's work is very difficult to read.

6. Not for the want of being almost like a girl (which I hate being accused of) I am not in possession of any of the fluffy creatures pictured above.

The world is unfair and unjust.

La Grève Générale

It has been a long while since I've been into mixes. Nothing has particularly caught my attention in a while. I used to love them. I'd fill my MP3 player with them to walk around to.

But yesterday Missing Toof posted an exclusive new mix by La Grève Générale.

La Grève Générale - Cheese On Toast and Sambuca Mixtape

Even though I am chronically ill this has managed to perk me up. So if you are going out any time soon get this whacked on before hand... And you'll probably end up staying in and throwing a massive party in your own house and causing tremendous amounts of damage. I bet it'd be worth it though. Invite me!
